If you love strong backgrounds, layered texture, and cards with a little edge, you’re going to love this second project from my Gears & Textures Card Class @ Home (CC@H). This class features the Gears & Textures Bundle from the January–April 2026 Mini Catalog, and each card highlights a different way to use bold stamping and metallic die cuts to create eye-catching designs.

This card features a bold “happy birthday” sentiment from the Fabulous Sayings Stamp Set (no longer available) stretched across the center, layered over a background filled with stamped gears and texture.The horizontal band grounds the design and keeps the sentiment front and center. To make the lightbulbs pop, they're die-cut, and then added to the card with dimensionals. The "wire" the lights are dangling from were drawn with a Black .4mm Stampin' Journaling Pen.
Instead of using Designer Series Paper on this card, the main layer itself creates that layered collage effect. By repeatedly stamping and overlapping images from the Gears & Textures Bundle, the background takes on the look of patterned paper. The mix of textures, tones, and circular elements gives it visual interest without needing an additional DSP layer. It’s a great example of how versatile your stamp set can be when you build your own background. I love the industrial collage look I was able to make with these stamps!
The featured embellishment for this class is the Adhesive-Backed Metallic Gems. On this birthday card, the copper gems add just the right amount of shine. I placed them strategically so they enhance the focal point without distracting from the bold sentiment. The card kits for this class include enough of these embellishments to make the cards, so you’ll have that perfect finishing touch ready to go.
The inside of this card continues the theme with additional stamped gears and texture in one corner. I love carrying the design to the inside so the card feels complete. There’s still plenty of room to write your birthday message, but it doesn’t feel plain or unfinished. It ties everything together beautifully.
