Day 5 - Birthday Wishes Card - 12 Days of Crafting Advent Calendar Series
Welcome to Day 5 of my 12 Days of Crafting Advent Calendar Series! Today’s project is extra fun because the Day 5 product inside the Advent Calendar is a set of four decorative masks—and we put them to work in the best way. These masks make it wonderfully easy to build layered florals with depth, dimension, and rich color variation. The bold blue blooms and soft leafy accents on today’s birthday card were all created with these masks, and the results are absolutely stunning.

In today’s video above, I show how simple it is to achieve multi-tone flowers using the masks step-by-step. Each mask lines up beautifully, letting you blend inks effortlessly to create shadows and highlights. If you’ve never crafted with decorative masks before, this card is the perfect introduction—they add that “wow” factor without any added stress. I also used tone-on-tone patterned paper from the Designer Series Paper (DSP) in the 12 Days of Crafting Advent Calendar (Day 2) on the top and bottom of the card front to give a leafy, textured look that feels soft and elegant behind the brightly colored stenciled florals.
The sentiment strip stretches across the center, grounding the design without stealing the spotlight. A bit of twine adds playful movement, and the gold embellishments from the Advent Calendar (Day 3) give the card a cheerful finishing sparkle. It’s an eye-catching, polished birthday card that looks far more complicated than it really is—thanks to those fabulous masks.

Before I wrap up, let’s talk about the inside of the card. I added a strip of same tone-on-tone leafy paper from the DSP pack along the bottom to coordinate with the front while giving plenty of room for your handwritten message. It’s a simple touch, but it makes the whole card thoughtfully finished.
