Tonight’s featured suite is the Waterside Retreat Suite, and it is such a peaceful one! It has that calm lakeside-cabin feel that makes you want to pull up a chair, sip something cold, and pretend your laundry folded itself. The card features the Relaxing Waterside Bundle, which includes wonderful images and dies that work beautifully for making outdoor, cabin, and waterside scenes. I used almost everything in the suite on this card, except for the Loose Anchor Trinkets.
The fun fold card we’ll be making tonight is a Buckle Card. This fold is so much fun because the front panel is held on with a "belt". It looks fancy, but it’s not hard once you see how it goes together. I love fun folds like this because they give your handmade card that extra “how did you do that?” moment without making you need three cups of coffee and a support group. 😂
The Waterside Retreat Designer Series Paper does so much of the work on this card. I used the striped paper on the front panels, and it gives the card a clean, peaceful look with blues and greens that fit the waterside theme perfectly. The scenic piece on the front is the star of the show with the trees, cabin, water, and sky. It makes the card feel like a quiet getaway in paper form. The plaid pattern on the inside adds another cozy touch and ties in so nicely with the outdoor chair images.
Instead of using embellishments on this card, I let the die-cut images and Designer Series Paper be the decorations. The large chair on the front adds great texture and detail, and the smaller chair on the buckle panel is such a cute surprise when the card is opened. Sometimes a card doesn’t need sparkle to shine. This one gets its charm from the wood-look chair, the pretty scene, and all of those peaceful paper patterns.
The inside of the card is just as fun as the outside. When you open it up, you can really see how the buckle piece works. The front panel opens to show the large writing area in the center. There’s also more of that striped Designer Series Paper and a plaid panel on the left, so the inside looks finished and coordinated. The little chair on the buckle panel makes the inside feel like part of the whole design instead of an afterthought.
I have the project sheet for this card ready for you, too. It includes the paper sizes, pictures, and the supply list for the card. You can use the project sheet to follow along with me during the Live tonight, or you can get your supplies together ahead of time and stamp along with me. That way, you won’t be hunting for cardstock while I’m already gluing things together. We’ve all been there.
