Each of these cards uses a variation of the technique to show just how versatile and fun it can be. You’ll find the free project sheet for all three cards below, complete with measurements and supplies so you can recreate them at home.
🎄 Card 1 – Classic Chalkboard Technique
The first card is the basic version of the Chalkboard Technique. I used a piece of black cardstock, embossed the images in white, and gently added white ink with a blending brush to create that soft, dusty “chalk” effect. The two elegant Christmas trees and the sentiment ’Tis the Season look crisp and timeless against the dark background.
To add a little sparkle, I layered the chalkboard piece onto gold foil and paired it with Modern Christmas Designer Series Paper (DSP) that features a subtle pattern for an elegant finish. It’s simple, yet classy—perfect for those who love the traditional chalkboard look.

🌲 Card 2 – Watercolor Pencil Version
For the second card, I took the technique a step further by using Watercolor Pencils to add color directly to images that were stamped with Whisper White Craft ink. This gives the trees a more dimensional, hand-colored appearance while still keeping the soft chalkboard feel.
The Merry Christmas sentiment shines in white, surrounded by a forest of gently shaded green trees. A few subtle clear Facted Snowflakes add just the right amount of shimmer to this peaceful scene. The red card base and geometric background paper from the Modern Christmas DSP make this one pop beautifully for the holidays.

🌲Card 3 – Stampin’ Blends Version
The third and final card showcases a stepped-up version of the Chalkboard Technique using Stampin’ Blends markers. I colored the embossed tree with bright, bold color to really make it stand out from the dark background. The result is a luminous tree that seems to glow from within!
The Be Jolly sentiment adds a cheerful touch, and I paired the chalkboard panel with a rich mix of red, green, and some Elegant Pine Snowflakes DSP for a festive contrast. A few Cherry Cobbler Faceted Snowflakes tie it all together and make this card feel extra merry.
